Almost everyone visits Aranjuez on a day trip. That’s exactly why staying the night is the best way to see the real town: the gardens at 8:30, when all you hear is birdsong; the palace mirrored in the Tagus at sunset; a concert at the Teatro Real Carlos III and a night-time stroll around the Plaza de San Antonio.
We don’t recommend specific places to stay, and nobody pays us to. These are the areas that work best depending on how you travel.
In the old town
Between the Plaza de San Antonio, Calle Stuart and the palace. Everything is walkable: gardens, restaurants, theatre and market. The best option if you come without a car or have little time.
Near the station
Practical if you arrive by train or on the Strawberry Train. The station is a 15 to 20-minute walk from the palace.
On the outskirts, with a car
If you’ll use Aranjuez as a base for Chinchón, Ocaña or Toledo, somewhere with parking outside the centre saves you circling. The Real Cortijo de San Isidro, 12 minutes away, is another quiet option.
When to book ahead
- First week of September: the Mutiny Festival.
- End of May: the Fiestas de San Fernando and peak strawberry season.
- Spring and autumn weekends, especially when the Strawberry Train runs or there are Early Music Festival concerts.
