Aranjuez with a dog
A plan for visiting Aranjuez with your dog: which gardens allow dogs (on a lead), river walks and Calle de la Reina, and which visits to save for another day.

Aranjuez is one of the few big sights near Madrid where your dog can come along for much of the visit: two of the royal gardens allow dogs on a lead, and the river and tree-lined avenues offer hours of walking. This plan brings together what you can do together.
The plan
9:00
The Prince's Garden
Dogs are allowed on a lead. Three kilometres of shady avenues along the river.
11:00
Calle de la Reina
The great tree-lined avenue that runs alongside the Prince's Garden, outside the garden itself.
12:00
The Island Garden
Dogs on a lead allowed here too. Watch out for the peacocks: keep the lead short.
13:00
The Tagus from the Puente de Barcas
The view of the palace mirrored in the river, without going into any enclosure.
13:30
Plaza de San Antonio
An open, arcaded square to rest before lunch.
Before you go
- According to official tourism information, dogs may enter the Prince's Garden and the Island Garden on a lead, as long as you clean up after them.
- The palace, the Casa del Labrador and the Barge Museum are indoor visits: save them for another day or take turns.
- In summer the paths and squares get very hot at midday: walk early.
